Senior citizens and the disabled will see their free off-peak bus travel concession in England maintained for the foreseeable future following amendments to the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme, the Department for Transport has confirmed.

The scheme, which was introduced in 2007, ensures that bus passengers aged over 65 or with a disability are entitled to travel free of charge on any off-peak local service throughout England. Some 10m people use the concessionary scheme.
