Routes that have the biggest potential for growth in cycling trips in London based on current flows and forecast population and employment growth have been identified in a Strategic Cycling Analysis by TfL.

The routes, almost all connected to central London and the fewest in west London, will "help to plan for future superhighways, quietways and liveable neighbourhoods," said TfL. The process included identifying the top 20% of busiest connections for current flows, and the the propensity of the demographics of different areas to cycle, the latter highlighting much of outer London as unlikely to yield good results. Areas with the lowest population and employment growth were also excluded. TfL noted the "challenge" of a third of the current most cycled routes starting or ending on a main road.

The 25 top-priority routes include Kentish Town to Wood Green; Oval to Streatham; Vauxhall to Clapham Common; Chelsea Embankment to Clapham Common; and, away from central London, the Greenwich Foot Tunnel to Hackney; Canning Town to Barking; Manor Park to Woolwich Ferry; and, to the west, Hounslow to Heathrow. TfL said it will undertake initial feasibility studies for these routes, while adding that it was not a "top-down, prescriptive" plan.
