Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its light rail tram system. The Metrolink system opened on 6 April 1992, and is now the UK’s largest tram network. When the service opened, the route operated between on the outskirts of Greater Manchester and Victoria rail station in the city centre.
Since then, the service has expanded to a 60-mile network, with 93 stops served by 120 trams, and catering for more than 37m passengers a year.
