Take-off for 40% increase in flights at London City Airport after Mayor backs plans

There will be 2.3m more passengers a year at London City Airport after the new transport secretary and Chancellor approved an expansion plan.

The £344m project will add seven aircraft stands so the airport can offer 120,000 flights a year to 6.5m passengers, or 45 flights an hour at peak times compared to 36 now.

Environmental campaigners said this would worsen air quality, going against Sadiq Khan's stated intention to improve it....
