More than a third of people who took part in a poll have said they would choose an electric bike rather than use public transport for their daily commutel.
The survey, by cycle component manufacturer Shimano and OnePoll, found that 38% of men would use an e-bike to travel to the office, while 29% of women would.
Respondents liked the fact that electric bike requires less physical effort compared to push-bikes, avoiding the problem of turning up hot and sweaty at the office.
The survey, which polled 1,000 people in the UK, found that one of the main reasons that commuters still use public transport over using an e-bike is that buses, tubes and trains are considered safer and more comfortable.
The majority of the respondents felt that the best way for the government to support e-bike usage would be by subsidising the purchase of e-bikes.
Mark Greshon, Shimano senior brand manager said: "The survey shows that commuters' aged 25-34 years, who are most likely the people in the early stages of their professional career, are most in favour of e-bikes for their daily commute. This makes a lot of sense as this younger generation is open to new technology like e-bikes, which we've already seen make a real impact in other European countries already."
A session on electric bikes will take at Cycle City Active City in Leicester next week.
There will also be an an opportunity to meet e-bike manufacturers at the exhibition running alongside the conference
