Evolt Charging has received official approval for the use of CatStrap EV Cable Protector across Circontrol’s DC charging hardware.
Following testing and evaluation carried out at Circontrol’s facilities in Spain, Circontrol has become the first EV charging OEM to recommend CatStrap as an aftermarket cable-theft protection solution for chargepoint operators (CPOs).
Cable theft remains a significant and costly challenge for UK CPOs, causing charger downtime, service disruption and thousands in replacement and repair costs per incident.
CatStrap provides a robust and highly visible deterrent that supports operators in protecting essential public charging infrastructure and maintaining reliable access for EV drivers.
The CatStrap: EV Cable Protector features a multi-layer steel design four times harder than stainless steel, supported by aircraft-grade cable for superior resistance to cutting attempts by handheld or powered tools.
Its patented internal movement system frustrates cutting efforts, keeping the underlying charging cable up to 90% intact even after sustained attempts. The system’s PET fibre sleeve provides flexibility and durability with minimal added weight, and it can be quickly installed on all tethered charging cables.
Seamus O’Dwyer, operations pPerformance director at Evolt Charging, said: “We’re thrilled that Circontrol has become the first OEM to approve and recommend our Catstrap EV Cable Protector. Following technical validation, this confirmation of compatibility and performance represents a strong endorsement – particularly because of the strong interest CatStrap has already attracted among CPOs and local authorities across the UK. By working closely with our OEM partners like Circontrol, we are helping CPOs protect their infrastructure – for both them and drivers.”
Testing conducted by Circontrol assessed CatStrap’s design, durability, and integration performance across a range of its DC chargepoints.
Xavier Soler, R&D HW technical manager at Circontrol, said: “Security and reliability are central to our approach, and we are pleased to confirm that Catstrap meets the quality and compatibility standards we require for our charging hardware. Evolt Charging have worked tirelessly to source and commit to this effective, well-engineered solution that supports our shared goal of improving the resilience of EV charging networks for operators and drivers alike.”
