Cable theft from electric vehicle chargers is a growing challenge, causing disruption for drivers and financial loss for operators.
Chargepoint operator InstaVolt is responding with measures to protect its infrastructure in order give drivers confidence that they can always rely on the charging network.
Security measures include: the nationwide roll-out of CableGuard forensic cable protection; the installation of CCTV, and the deployment of GPS tracking technology in partnership with Trackit247, providing real-time updates every three seconds.
CableGuard is a high-strength protective sleeve that releases a forensic liquid if tampered with. The liquid glows under UV light and is traceable to a specific location, helping law enforcement act against offenders and strengthening deterrence.
The Trackit247 GPS tracking system is designed not only to deter theft but also to work with police to trace and recover cables and detain offenders in real-time.
