Zapmap reports will focus on counting chargers

There are now over 118,000 public chargepoints in operation across the UK, reports EV infrastructure information service Zapmap.

Last month, 1,592 net new EV chargers were added to the Zapmap database.

This means that at the end of February 2026 there were 118,321 EV chargers, which are sited on 89,842 devices across 45,561 charging locations around the UK. These chargers span those used on-street, destination and for en-route charging.

The number of public EV chargers in the UK has grown from 102,771 at the end of 2024 to 116,052 by the end of 2025, this represents a growth of 13%.

Zapmap is the leading source of EV charging data and insights, providing UK government's Department for Transport with the data that underpins the official public charging statistics.

The DfT’s official electric vehicle public charging infrastructure statistics for 2025 mark a shift in focus to counting EV chargers (EVSE). To align with this change, Zapmap is now using EV chargers (EVSE) as its lead metric in infrastructure statistics.

Power band descriptors have also been updated, with ‘Slow and ‘Fast’ becoming ‘Standard’ and ‘Standard plus’, providing more intuitive language for EV drivers and a better reflection of the charging experience.

The four speeds or power ratings that are tracked are defined as Standard (from 3kW up to 7.9kW), Standard Plus (from 8kW up to 49kW), Rapid (from 50kW up to 149kW) and Ultra-rapid (150kW and above).

Jade Edwards, head of insights, Zapmap, said: “As the EV charging infrastructure develops in the UK, and we move towards more widespread adoption of EVs, changes to the way we report on growth, alongside a move towards more standardised terminology, help ensure that new and prospective EV drivers have a clear understanding of the charging options available to them.

“International comparisons of public network size are more easily and accurately made using the EV charger count as EV chargers are used as the standard metric throughout Europe and in many countries across the rest of the world.”
