Decarbonising Transport Awards shine light on EV charging

Fully Charged creator (and occasional android) Robert Llewellyn will reveal winners on 27 March

Innovative and impactful electric vehicle charging projects will be recognised at the inaugural Decarbonising Transport Awards.

Achieving net zero is the biggest challenge facing the transport industry. The Decarbonising Transport Awards have been created by Landor LINKS to recognise the people, projects and technologies that are seeking to reduce carbon across the transport industry.  

Best EV Project Award

The Best EV Project Award, sponsored by EVolution, recognises a local authority, or organisation that has worked with an authority, to implement a successful EV charging scheme that can clearly evidence measurable and sustainable carbon saving benefits.  
 
The finalists:

• Believ: Chargepoint operator Believ’s East London accessibility programme delivers inclusive EV chargers through co-design with local authorities and Motability, ensuring disabled drivers and Blue Badge holders can access charging as part of the transition to zero-emission transport.
• Brighton & Hove City Council & Char.gy: A 6,000-unit on-street charging programme that removes barriers to EV adoption, accelerates carbon reduction and delivers an equitable, reliable, and scalable public charging network.
• London Borough of Hackney: The East London council created one of the densest EV charging network in the UK with 2,500 chargepoints, which have prevented the equivalent of 670 homes worth of CO2 emissions in the last year.
• Manchester City Council: The city is delivering EV charging using multiple programmes and funding streams to target groups who are often under-served by private sector investment. 
• Q-Park: The car park operator’s roll-out of electric vehicle charging points in UK city centres relies on resilient hardware and responsive customer service. Q-Park also utilises Smappee’s energy management system to optimise energy usage and identify inefficiencies.

Besides the Best EV Project Award, there are awards for behaviour change, highways, local transport, freight, shared mobility, leisure travel and digital initiatives. There will also be trophies for individuals and teams championing the net zero cause.

The winners will be revealed at the Royal Lancaster London Hotel on Friday 27 March by actor, author and presenter Robert Llewellyn. In parallel (universes) to starring in the science-fiction comedy Red Dwarf, Llewellyn has become a leading advocate of green energy and the transition to electric vehicles via online and live forums such as Fully Charged and Everything Electric.
