Car-dealer Arnold Clark’s £30m investment into EV charging has seen it become the largest provider of ultra-rapid chargepoints in Scotland.
The family-run Glasgow firm announced its entrance to the chargepoint sector in 2023, with the first devices going live the following year.
Motorists initially had to book slots and use a proprietary app to top up their cars’ batteries using the Arnold Clark Charge network, but last summer the company extended its offering, allowing all EV drivers to simply turn up and charge.
Arnold Clark now operates over 50 ultra-rapid (150kW+) charging hubs across the UK, and more 30 in Scotland.
Electricity on the network costs 55p per kWh, significantly undercutting the national average 76p-rate for public plugs. This competitive pricing model and fast roll-out saw Arnold Clark named ‘Best Up and Coming Network’ by Zapmap in its 2025 customer-satisfaction survey.
