Cycling and the planning system to be discussed at seminar

The Active Travel Academy is hosting a free seminar on how the planning system deals with cycling on a strategic level.

Guest speakers Jenny Raggett, Director at Transport for New Homes, and Herbert Tiemens, Senior Policy Advisor at Utrecht Municipality, will discuss site allocations and housing targets, plan-making, using examples of greenfield sites, urban extensions, and new towns in the UK and the Netherlands. They will ask: what change is possible/likely, and what does the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill offer?

Transport for New Homes is a campaign organisation and think tank whose reports include ‘Building Car Dependency’ and Garden Villages and Garden Towns: Visions and Reality.

Herbert Tiemens,  who works for the City of Utrecht as senior policy advisor, will explore the contrasts between and Dutch planning structures. He will speak at the seminar via video link from the Netherlands. 

After the two panellists have spoken there will be time for questions and discussion. 

The seminar will take place in Room M324 (3rd floor), 35 Marylebone Road, London NW1 5LS, on Monday 20 October from 5.30pm to 7pm.
