South Gloucestershire Council will be introducing charges in over 20 of its car parks.
From 19 May charges will apply at 22 sites from 08:00 to 18:00 from Monday to Saturday.
However, parking will remain free on Sundays and bank holidays, except at park & ride sites and train station car parks.
Drivers will be charged 70p for the first hour in short-stay car parks, rising to £5 for up to four hours.
