Why apply?

Transport AI 2024 is creating an ecosystem and building a marketplace for AI innovation. We’ve invited 200 local authorities, businesses and AI experts to Manchester on January 23, 2024, to get the ball rolling, and we will continue to map, develop and support this growing community as AI becomes increasingly mainstream in daily workflows, customer communications and all aspects of transport and urban planning.

Working with key event collaborators Innovate UK BridgeAI, Microsoft, Centre for Sustainable Innovation, Salford, and the Turing Innovation Catalyst, Transport AI 2024 offers AI innovators a unique opportunity to meet peers, find new collaborators / business partners and better understand client needs.

Who are we looking for?

The start-ups we're looking for:

  • Are young companies, less than 3 years old, established by one or more entrepreneurs to create unique and irreplaceable products or services

  • Are aiming to develop a minimum viable product (MVP) and lay the foundations that will turn the concept into something real

  • Have an idea that can by be tested by real customers and data that backs up the feasibility of the idea

  • Are ready to present to potential funders and investors.

Why now, and why Manchester?

A £250m investment fund from Innovate UK and the Technologies Mission Fund (TMF), launched by HMG/UKRI in March 2023, is bringing together businesses from priority sectors with AI experts and developers to foster an AI innovation network in the UK.

There are also many AI-focused UK innovation programmes across Manchester.

Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, says: “Greater Manchester’s selection as one of three Innovation Accelerator regions demonstrates the Government’s confidence in our innovation ecosystem. These align with the sectors where Greater Manchester has emerging or established strengths, like advanced materials, artificial intelligence (AI) and diagnostics.”

Manchester has a strong academic AI community and a pipeline of talent. Three of its five universities have established research groups working in AI and data science. The city is home to AI accelerators such as the Turing Innovation CatalystCentre for Digital Innovation and the Manchester Technology Centre.
