A proposed £2 cap on bus fares in England this autumn and winter could leave operators and local authorities having to plug funding gaps, according to a bus industry analyst.
The £2 cap is under consideration as a practical way to help people cope with the increasing cost of living. Energy prices are forecast to increase again in the autumn. A UK Government source told The Times that the £2 fare would be eye-catching and show that the Government was helping.
