The City of Edinburgh Council has ruled out introducing countdown timers at pedestrian crossings, saying they would not deliver any tangible benefit because of the way traffic signals in the city operate.
London is believed to be the only place in the UK that makes widespread use of countdown timers, which display the number of seconds remaining in the ‘blackout period’ – between the green man being extinguished and the red man appearing.
