Nexus has shortlisted five bidders to design, build and maintain a new fleet Tyne and Wear Metro trains. They are: Bombardier Transportation UK Ltd; CAF; Downer EDI Rail Pty Ltd – a joint venture of Downer EDI Rail and CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. Ltd; Hitachi Rail Europe Ltd; and Stadler Bussnang AG. A preferred bidder will be chosen late next year. The trains will enter service between 2022 and 2024....
