I fully agree with the views expressed by Ray Wilkes advocating the replacement of free national bus travel by an all-modes, UK-wide discount scheme based upon the successful commercial senior railcard (Letters LTT 7 Jul). A one-third discount on all public transport fares (except mainland airlines) would be attractive to many senior citizens and also to operators.
