Ferry fares are to be reduced by up to half on all Western Isles to mainland routes under a Scottish Government pilot. From 19 October ferry users will be charged a fare comprising two components: a core rate, and a 'Road Equivalent Tariff' based on the cost of travelling an equivalent distance by road.
