Sir Brian Briscoe has been appointed chairman of HS2, the company established by the Government to advise on the development of a high-speed line between London and the West Midlands and beyond. He is taking over from Sir David Rowlands, who is stepping down this month and taking up chairmanship of London Gatwick Airport. Briscoe chaired the Independent Transport Commissions for Cambridge and Reading and is a former chief executive of the Local Government Association.
