Manchester City Council has banned the use of shared surface street designs – in which pedestrians and motorists share the same space – in new housing developments.
The council’s soon-to-be-published street design manual will state that: “Shared surface streets and Homezones without pedestrian footways and a kerb upstand will not be accepted in Manchester.”
