Concept designs to double the passenger capacity at Birmingham New Street station have been unveiled this week by the New Street Gateway partners (Network Rail, Birmingham City Council, Advantage West Midlands and Centro). They include: a new concourse three-and-a-half times larger than the existing one enclosed by a transparent-roofed atrium; 42 new escalators and 14 new lifts; a new station facade; and better links to and through the station for pedestrians with eight new entrances....
