Metro journeys up by one million for 2006/7

Patronage figures for Metro, run by Tyne and Wear PTE Nexus, show that passenger journeys are up 1.14m in the first nine months of the current financial year 2006/7, over 2005/6.

The number of passengers using the system in morning peak travel is up 15% and in the evening, 6%. Journeys by MetroSaver season ticket holders are up 32%, and travel by pensioners and the disabled using the new Metro Gold Card up by 21%.
