Hoon hastens delivery of 200 rail carriages

Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon has announced that 200 of the 1,300 new rail carriages promised by the government before 2015 will be provided earlier than planned.

The vehicles will be deployed at Northern Rail, First Great Western and TransPennine Express. A spokesman said the carriages would enter service in two to three years, although the DfT was unable to quantify how much this advanced their delivery by or how many vehicles each company could receive.
