Sustainable urban drainage systems help prevent flooding

Surface parking areas are a major contributor to flooding in urban areas as they tend to cause rainfall into inadequate drainage channels, leading to either a rush of water into local watercourses or deep ponding. This has led to the development of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) which feature holding areas that release excess water gradually into the wider drainage system, and which feature filtering systems to deal with fuel and other pollutants.
