An appeal for clarity

Parking appeals statistics still don’t give a clear and consistent picture of what is happening across the sector, argues Mike Macey

The workshop on back office processes at the excellent Parking World 2011 conference, held at Lord’s Cricket Ground, discussed an issue close to my heart, namely performance at parking appeals.

I will confine my comments to the figures for London in the latest Parking & Traffic Appeals Service (PATAS) annual report, which covers 2010-11. It should not be forgotten, however, that many city centres outside the capital are larger than some outer London boroughs in terms of penalty charge...
