British Parking Awards 2011 launched

British Parking Awards 2011 to celebrate ten years of excellence

The British Parking Awards, sponsored by Equita, celebrate their tenth birthday with what is expected to be the biggest and best competition yet. One of the highlights of the tenth anniversary gala lunch, to be held in London on Friday 11 March 2011, will be the presentation of a special award to be “best of the best” from the past ten years.

Run by Parking Review magazine, the competition and its gala awards lunch are now the highlight of the parking year. Mark Moran, managing editor of Parking Review, said: “We launched the British Parking Awards in 2002 and they were immediately recognised as the ultimate recognition of excellence and achievement in parking management, design and innovation. Alongside categories recognising excellent car park design and innovative technology and effective enforcement practice, we have developed categories reflecting themes such as parking in the community, environmentally-sound policies and inspiring marketing.”

Parking professionals attending next spring’s gala lunch will witness some special moments, promises Moran.

“To mark the first decade of the competition, a special trophy will be presented to one of the best entrants from the past ten years. This will be a past winner which has proven to have made a lasting and significant difference to the parking world.

“To reflect the fact that the awards have come of age we are also launching a new category, which will recognise the next generation of talented parking managers and thinkers, the Young?Parking?Professional of the Year.”

The most coveted trophy is The Equita Overall Winner, which drawn from the category winners, presented to the individual category winner that represents the single most outstanding example of excellence during the past year. Last year the Overall Winner was the London Borough of Hillingdon, which was recognised for its work in developing nationally recognised back office qualifications and launching the HillingdonFirst smart card, which offers discounted parking to residents.

Paul?Sharpe, Equita’s marketing director, said: “We are delighted to have agreed remain as main sponsors for the next two years and continue our support of the awards. It is particularly exciting that 2011 marks the tenth anniversary of the awards, which have grown from their embryonic beginnings to success they are today. The calibre of entries for 2010 set new standards, and we are sure that 2011 will see the levels of excellence maintained.”

The awards are endorsed by the British Parking Association (BPA) and continually evolve to reflect trends and changing priorities in the parking sector. The Safer Parking Scheme, run by the BPA, will be sponsoring the Best Refurbishment category as part of its campaign to improve the quality and security of car parks.

This year, Alpha Parking will be sponsoring the Exceptional Customer Service Award. Alpha director Penny Winder said: “As a company we are committed to helping our clients set and achieve high standards within the parking industry. Whether on-street or in the back office environment, good customer service is imperative to improving the public’s image of the industry.”

Entry to the competition, which now attracts over 100 entries, is free. Entries are reviewed by a panel of independent experts drawn from the parking, transport, enforcement, marketing and allied sectors.
