Wind powered station bays in Preston

A pair of wind turbines have been erected on the roof of Preston station multi-storey car park. The are being installed by Galliford Try for Network Rail. Standing 12 metres high, the QR5 vertical axis turbines are designed for use in urban environments with low wind speeds and changeable wind directions. Energy output will be between 6,000 and 10,000 kWhrs (kilowatt hours) per turbine.
