£4.5bn order for new intercity trains
The DfT has announced details of a £4.5bn contract to acquire 92 new ‘intercity’ trains made up of 596 carriages (some five-car, some nine-car). Agility Trains, a consortium of Japanese train maker Hitachi and UK engineering firm John Laing, will assemble the trains at a new factory in County Durham.
