Short franchise for South Eastern
The DfT has launched a consultation on the new South Eastern rail franchise, which will begin in April 2014. The franchise will only run for six years and five months (with a possible two year extension) because some services will be transferred into the new Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern franchise, due to begin in 2018.
