Manchester city region approved
Ministers have approved plans to strengthen city-region governance in Greater Manchester, including over transport.
The Greater Manchester Combined Authority will be the first such body in the country and will oversee transport, economic development and regeneration in the conurbation. The CA, which will be in place from 1 April next year, will comprise the leaders of each of the ten metropolitan districts.
