Internet companies may have to provide HM Revenues & Customs with more information on people and businesses that sell goods and services online.
As part of a crackdown on tax evasion HMRC wants to target businesses that have failed to register for tax, and individuals who fail to declare the money they make online. HMRC estimates that in 2012/13 the value of the “hidden economy” stood at £5.9bn, which equates to 17% of the total tax gap.
