Perceptions of CCTV depend on picture quality

Better quality CCTV footage would boost public perceptions of safety and security, according to a joint survey by YouGov and surveillance solutions company Avigilon.

The survey found that 72% of the public would feel more secure if Britain’s streets had high-definition (HD) CCTV in place, rather than standard resolution CCTV systems, so that clearer pictures could be obtained.

But 58.7% of the UK’s new sales of surveillance systems in 2012 were analogue based, the survey reported....
