Route for East-West Rail

The East West Rail Consortium (EWRC) has selected the Bedford-Sandy-Cambridge corridor as the preferred option for its ‘missing’ central link section. 

The Bedford-Sandy-Cambridge line closed in 1967; the Bedford-Sandy section survives as a footpath, but parts of the Sandy-Cambridge trackbed have been built over.  The central section connects Oxford and Bedford in the west with Cambridge, Norwich and Ipswich in the east.
