Roads shake-up as Amey doubles in size and Atkins offloads deals

The highways sector has been shaken up as Ferrovial acquired Enterprise for £385m  and Atkins sold its highways business to Skanska.

Ferrovial’s proposed acquisition, which needs to be approved by the European Commission, will see Enterprise integrated into Ferrovial-owned Amey. Ferrovial said the purchase would save £40m due to synergies in the two businesses. Amey has over 11,000 employees and Enterprise 9,600; both provide highway maintenance services.
