Pothole repairs ‘will only give short-term relief’

Local Authorities are spending too much on filling in potholes and not enough on rebuilding roads, the Asphalt Industry Association has said.

Its annual survey of local highway authorities in England and Wales suggests that the percentage of spending on reactive maintenance rose from 24% to 27% in England outside London, 28% to 33% in London, and 29% to 33% in Wales. Authorities reported a 59% increase in pothole filling last year compared with the previous year.
