End of the road?

It’s not an easy time to be an independent bus operator and those that are left are facing some difficult decisions. The combination of continued cost increases and new regulatory arrangements to comply with is forcing many to consider how much longer they can continue.

Over the past five years the owners of around 20 independent bus companies have decided to sell up. About 40% of the vehicles that were in independent hands at the end of 2004 have since been purchased by a group.
