Watchdog puts government on the spot over GNER’s parking charges

Passenger focus last week added to GNER’s woes by referring the intercity operator to transport secretary Douglas Alexander over its decision to almost double car parking charges at some stations.
The passenger watchdog has rarely used its powers under the Railways Act 1993 to refer a train operator to the secretary of state, and the referral of GNER places the Department for Transport in an awkward position.
