ATCO warns of increasing cost of bus service procurement

A new survey by the Association of Transport Co-ordinating Officers has discovered that the increasing cost of local authority supported bus services is leading to cuts around the country.

This year’s survey, which ATCO carries out annually, shows that in the last year, the average cost of re-tendered local bus contracts was 7.4% higher than the contracts they replaced. This is the eleventh successive year in which the increase has been significantly above inflation.
