Don’t evade an open debate over true levels of fare evasion
The assumption that huge benefits can still be gained from revenue protection, particularly gating stations, has been a feature of recent franchise bids. The issue kicked off when First won the Thameslink franchise and revealed it would be installing more gates to target the estimated 10% of revenue lost through ticketless travel. Go Ahead, one of the incumbents, put the figure for Thameslink at 2.5%.
