Free parking does not boost business
RAC Report challenges received wisdom on shoppers' parking

Giving shoppers an initial period of free parking in town centres does not benefit local businesses, the RAC’s parking report suggests. More city centres are allowing a free period of up to half an hour to enable the quick purchase of a few items. Often a ticket still has to be bought from a pay & display machine to control arrival and departure time.
