Government backs Portas parking plan
The government has accepted most of the proposals from retail expert Mary Portas on rejuvenating town centres (PR Jan). Housing and planning minister Grant Shapps said that a range of incentives were to be rolled out, including a £10m innovation fund.
Shapps said he wanted to see hundreds of ‘town teams’ – made up of local authorities, local landlords, business owners and local MPs – being formed to drive forward the necessary change.
