Retail lobby dismisses Portas parking proposals

Calls by retail expert Mary Portas for tougher planning controls on new out-of-town developments has been dismissed by the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
The BRC said it backed the report’s recommendations on parking’s relationship with the high street published last month (PR Jan). But it challenges one of the recommendations, which calls for every out-of-town development to go to the secretary of state with a quota of affordable shops in the retail mix.
