Main boards get smaller - management committees grow
The departure of UK bus director Nicola Shaw from FirstGroup and chief operating officer Ray O’Toole from National Express last year marked the end of specialist operational roles on the main boards of the big five transport groups. They were not replaced at board level and it meant four of the five companies had just two executive directors– the chief executive and the finance directors.
