Nexus plans Metro growth with service boost to Sunderland
Passenger numbers on the Tyne & Wear Metro could rise by 400,000 following the decision to increase the number of trains on the Sunderland line.
According to the latest figures, provided by Nexus, the increased frequency of Metro trains operating between South Hylton and Park Lane will stimulate an extra 400,000 journeys per year.
Metro has already seen passenger numbers pass the 40 million mark - the highest level since the early 1990s - and is looking to build on this success.
