Trying unsuccesfully to check my emails in my favourite front seat on the top deck of the 243 bus, the sad refrain of Joni Mitchell’s  “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone” started running round and round my head, accompanied by an initially unexplained mood of dark discontent. It was the difficulty with emails that gave me the clue about the cause. I had done something really stupid. I had downloaded the new operating system for my iPhone...
