Ladyman rejects MPs' call for tax rises on 'gas-guzzlers' and planes
Transport minister Stephen Ladyman this week rejected many of the recommendations of the House of Commons' Environmental Audit Committee's new report into ways to reduce carbon emissions from transport.
The committee wants the Government to introduce a number of measures, including increasing vehicle excise duty from £210 to £1,800 for the most polluting cars; stricter enforcement of speed limits; and increasing the Air Passenger Duty to reduce air travel demand.
