London seeks lane rental powers
London Mayor Boris Johnson and London Councils have urged the Government to speed up the introduction of new powers to control streetworks.
They want lane rental powers, whereby utility companies would have to pay a daily charge for digging up the streets. The previous Government had pledged to consult on lane rental in July but the new Government has not set a firm date for when consultation will begin.
