DfT’s claims for M4 bus lane removal demand scrutiny

Research conducted by TRL after the introduction of the M4 bus lane showed that an impressive 21% of people using the section of motorway heading into London were able to use the bus lane using just 7% of the vehicles.
These people gained a three-and-a-half minute advantage over other users during rush hour. Other reported benefits included faster travel times for non-bus lane users, smoother traffic flows and reductions in noise, fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. Off-peak journey...
