Tensions' between business and community interests could deflect integration of regional economic and spatial plans

Parliament has voiced misgivings over the way the Government expects the integration of regional economic and spatial plans to be achieved - though not the principle of bringing them together.

Under this new regime, set out in the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill, regional economic and spatial plans will be amalgamated and carried out by Regional Development Agencies. A new suite of Parliamentary regional committees will oversee this new regime.
