More cuts: CABE and English Heritage merger mooted, Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) scrapped

The coalition government has announced plans to axe its sustainability watchdog in order to meet targets for public sector spending cuts, reports The Guardian.

Plans are also afoot to merge CABE and English Heritage into a superquango. The proposal would see a number of heritage groups, including the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Churches Conservation Trust, all put under one roof to save millions of pounds of running costs.
